Humalog side effects include low blood sugar. The symptoms include headache, nausea, hunger, confusion, drowsiness, weakness, dizziness, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, sweating, tremors, trouble concentrating, confusion and severe cases, seizure. It is important to always carry a piece of non-dietetic hard candy or glucose tablets in case you find you have low blood sugar.
More severe symptoms may include redness, itching, swelling or thickening of the skin at the injection site. It is important that you call your doctor immediately if you have any of these symptoms.
Other Humalog side effects may include back pain, diarrhea, indigestion, itching, mild pain on the injection site, runny nose and weight gain. Again if you have a severe allergic reaction you should call your doctor if you end up with a rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue. This also goes for any tingling in the arms, hands, legs or feet.
Side Effects of Humalog Effect People Differently
It is important to note that symptoms will differ from person to person. People react differently due to age, weight, body type and even ethnicity and sex. Research has indicated that men can react quite differently than women to the same diabetes medication. Also, not every patient will have side effects from taking the medication while others may have mild to severe reactions.
Low blood sugar is the most common side effect when taking Humalog. This can be the result of taking too much of this medication or it can be a result of not eating enough. It is important to treat this immediately otherwise complications can occur such as unconsciousness, seizures or even death.
Other possible side effects include allergic reactions. Again, get medical help as soon as possible especially if you have trouble breathing or get a fast heart rate. As well some people have low potassium levels in their blood so you might want to check this with your doctor.
Unfortunately it is not always possible to determine what type of side effects if any, or the severity someone will have with different types of medications. The best way to try to eliminate any side effects of any diabetic medication is to have a conversation with your doctor so that they can help you choose the best dosage and drug for your particular need.
